Synopsis
A personal cinematic investigation into the extraordinary secret lives of doctors who are drug addicts, “Dr. Procter” is the story of director Alison McAlpine’s grandfather and the doctors/recovering addicts she has come to know.
The arc of the film is her journey to discover her grandfather. Encountering relatives, friends and unexpected fabulous characters she unearths her family’s dark history and reveals secrets and questions that mirror the lives and stories of eminent doctors today. General practitioners, a trauma surgeon, an anesthesiologist, an internist disclose their hidden double lives as doctor-addicts helping her to understand her grandfather with their humour and humanity.
“Dr. Procter” is a universal tale of suffering, deceit and the unexpected joys of recovery.
